Does A Cell Phone Have To Be Unlocked For My Sim Card From Another Country To Work In It?

January 19, 2010

I live in Canada and would really like a Palm Pre, though they’re not available here so I am wondering if I bought one on ebay that’s NOT unlocked if I put my current sim card (from a Canadian provider) in it if it would work?
Thanks!

The Palm Pre is a Sprint phone. Sprint is a CDMA network. CDMA phones cannot be unlocked and they cannot be used on GSM networks. Canadian networks are GSM.

The phone is not locked to any particular phone service providers. Before you make a decision to purchase a particular phone, make sure that the frequency of your mobile phone network is compatible with the phone you wish to purchase.
Within the United States and Canada, the majority uses only GSM 1900/ GSM 850 bandwidth.
