Iphone 3g Vs. Palm Pre?

January 25, 2010

I have Sprint currently. My contract expires in Jan. and I’m eligible for $75 rebate now, but $150 on Nov. 1. Today, Apple released the 3G iPhone for $100, but that means I would have to switch over to AT&T. Should I wait until the Pre is a little more affordable ($475 for me now) or go for the iPhone?
Thanks

    STAY AND GET THE PRE
yes the iphone 3g is now $100 cheaper than it used to be but if u look at apple’s site, it does NOT show the iphone 3g getting video recording, voicecontrol, digital compass, 2x faster performance, improved battery life… it gets v little software updates.
    even the new iphone:
    - still cant multitask
    - has a screen with less dpi –> on palm pres screen things look better
    - lacks a physical keyboard – better than an onscreen, thats y palm dropped it a few years ago
    - doesnt hv gestures palm pre does
    - doesnt hv flash for camera
    - so many ppl use iphone 3g and 3gs, that internet will hv more “traffic” so pages wont load as fast.
    - web browser wont be getting flash support – palm will so u can view videos directly from the source, not look for the videos u can find in a youtube app. not all the videos on the web r on youtube. also u mite be able to play a few online games
    - bluetooth file send/receiving?? – not sure if iphone can do this (it mite) but i know palm pre can
    - still much more expensive than palm pre (consider the 2yr period u hv to pay for iphone. it adds up and to way over $2000)
    - has vide recording – but pre will get it soon as well.
    - doesnt hv synergy between apps (eg ur friend changes his contact info in facebook, palm pre automatically updates this in ur contacts)
    - is locked to at&t. a gsm version of pre is said to be released before winter which means u can use it with at&t, t-mobile, and by that time verizone will probably get it as well
also a cheaper version of palm pre will be released (eventually) the palm Eos. i wish i was able to use sprint like u… but i live in europe so no palm pre 4 me too soon.

I would pick the iPhone. Its cheaper. Wait out for your contract to be over. Use the rebate to buy part of the phone. The iPhone is beter because you get alot more apps so its really worth it in the end. But i would pick the Palm Pre if you want a physical keyboard. Right at this second the Palm Pre is the only with MMS but when the update comes next week youll have MMS for the iPhone. You have a better camera for the Palm Pre but the 3G s(the new iPhone they announced today) has the same quality camera as the pre but a $100 higher than the iPhone 3G original.

I’d wait and get the Pre. The iPhone has been out longer & the Pre is a lot newer so it should have better advantages like the person above said.

Get the iPhone, it is so much better than the Pre especially with the 3.0 software upgrade. But you might as well get the iPhone 3G S
